Tianya Haijiao lies on the coastal area west of downtown Sanya. It takes its name from the "Tianya" (Edge of the Sky) and "Haijiao" (Rim of the Sea) characters carved into seaside boulders, and is one of Hainan's most representative coastal attractions.
Coconut groves, reefs and beaches interweave across the site, with open views suited to sea-watching, strolling and photography. Because of its romantic connotations, it is often chosen as a commemorative spot by couples and travelers.
