One of the holiest Tibetan Buddhist temples, enshrining the Jowo Shakyamuni statue, fronting Barkhor Street.
Built in the 7th century, the Jokhang blends Tibetan, Tang, Nepali and Indian styles. Devotees prostrate in the square all day, while the golden roofs and pilgrim corridors are deeply atmospheric.
