Orange Isle is a long, narrow sandbar in the middle of the Xiang River, facing Yuelu Mountain to the west and the city to the east, and forms part of the Yuelu Mountain national key scenic area. Shaded by trees, it has a park, walking paths and a sightseeing train.
At its head stands the imposing sculpture of the young Mao Zedong, an iconic Changsha sight. In the evening a river breeze drifts over, giving distant views of the nightly lights on both banks and the city skyline to the east — a popular spot for strolling and sightseeing.
