Shaoshan lies in Xiangtan, Hunan, and is the birthplace of Mao Zedong, about 100 km from Changsha and roughly 1.5 hours by car. It is an important revolutionary memorial site and “red tourism” destination in China, where pastoral scenery blends with cultural landmarks.
Main sights include Mao Zedong's former residence, the Mao Zedong bronze statue square, the memorial museum and Dishui Cave, where visitors come to learn about modern history. The surrounding countryside is attractive, making it suitable for a day trip.
