Taiping Street lies in central Changsha, running south from Wuyi Avenue as a well-preserved historic neighbourhood. Its lanes are paved with flagstones and lined with late-Qing to early-Republican buildings and time-honoured shops, and the former residence of Jia Yi can be found here too.
It is a hub of Changsha's food and nightlife, packed with snacks such as stinky tofu, sugar-oil rice cakes and spicy crayfish alongside distinctive shops. After nightfall, lights and crowds mingle — a fine place to browse and eat while feeling the city's everyday energy.
