Haikou Volcanic Crater Geopark lies in the southwest of the city, about 15 km from the centre, and is an important volcanic geological heritage reserve in Hainan. Its core is a well-preserved crater and lava-flow landscape with striking landforms.
Lush tropical vegetation surrounds the crater, and there are circular walkways and viewing platforms, making it both an educational site and good for hiking. Visitors can learn how the Qiongbei volcanic cluster formed, making it a destination combining nature and science.
