Lugu Lake lies in the highlands on the border of Yunnan and Sichuan and is one of Yunnan's higher-altitude lakes with excellent water quality. The water is clear and deep blue, surrounded by mountains and dotted with islands.
The lakeshore is mainly home to the Mosuo people, whose distinctive walking-marriage custom and matrilineal culture add a cultural dimension to the lake. Visitors can take boat trips, tour around the lake and visit local villages to enjoy the unique blend of highland lake scenery and ethnic traditions.
