Quanzhou sits on the southeast coast of Fujian and was a key starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Road; in 2021 it was inscribed as a World Heritage Site under “Quanzhou: Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China.” The old town is dense with monuments and a blend of diverse religious cultures.
The twin pagodas of Kaiyuan Temple, the busy Guanyue Temple, the tranquil Qingjing Mosque and the Temple of the Sea Goddess link up the old town's historic threads. The street food and red-brick arcade houses of West Street and Zhongshan Road are best savoured on foot.
